The Rockland County Sheriff’s Office would like to congratulate Patrol Officer Mark Colon and K9 Reedy on their recent graduation from K9 Patrol School, hosted by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. The K9 Team of PO Colon and K9 Reedy just completed 18 weeks of training where they became NYS DCJS Certified in tracking, article search, handler protection and apprehension. K9 Reedy is named in memory of Patrol Officer Michael J. Reedy of the Orangetown Police Department. On August 2, 1973, PO Reedy along with PO Thomas Kennedy were struck and killed by a drunk driver’s vehicle while they were directing traffic at an accident scene on Route 303 in Blauvelt.
K9 Reedy is a 14-month-old German Shepherd from Poland. Sheriff Louis Falco was able to purchase K9 Reedy utilizing asset forfeiture money. In the Fall this K9 Team will head back to detector school where they will be trained in narcotics detection. We wish this new K9 Team the best of luck!
